 eChapter Research Grant Application Instructions

Read the application and funding Rules. Applications must follow the guidelines listed below or they will not be funded.

Funding Rules

  • One evidence-based quality improvement project or research study "will be funded up to $1000.00

  • Applicants must be eChapter members

  • Applications will be accepted from August 1 through January 31

  • Preference will be given to members committed to professional development*

  • Research studies funded must be completed within 1 year of grant receipt. If the study cannot be completed within that time frame, please provide an explanation and proposed completion date.

  • Research studies must be applicable to OR nursing and have received IRB approval if involving human research.

  • Applicants must agree to share study results with the eChapter BOD, eChapter Research and Evidence-Based Practice Support Committee, eChapter membership and provide evidence of submitting a poster/presentation proposal for the AORN Expo following study/project completion.

*Professional development: Includes but is not limited to evidence of demonstrating continuing education either academically or professionally; participation in professional organizations; holding a professional certification; attending perioperative conferences; presenting posters/live presentations/education

NOTE: Funding status notification will be received by all submitting an application.

The application process requires uploading an application that includes the proposal and a separate budget using the provided templates in a single .pdf document.

Application Requirements

  • Completed eChapter Research Grant (eRG) Application that meets the following criteria:
    — 1-3 pages long, single spaced (with appropriate citations)
    — A statement of the problem being investigated including how it links to AORN Research Priorities
    — Literature review supporting the identified problem
    — Hypotheses or research questions
    — Research design methodology including sampling, data collection, and data analysis plans and instruments
    — Data management plans
    — Anticipated outcomes including whether results impact local, regional, national or global audiences
    — Plans for results dissemination — Study timeline

  • Reasons funding is necessary

  • Brief Curriculum Vitae of the primary investigator and additional investigators

  • Clearly outlined budget using the eRG Research Grant budget template
    — 1 page
    — A breakdown of all anticipated expenses including the TOTAL cost of the project. Please include vendor name and product quotes. Include shipping and handling costs, if applicable.
    — A brief explanation of why each item is important for the project

  • Support letters from appropriate consultants, research partners, administrator and/or supervising faculty

    Note that only completed applications (i.e. eRG Application and eRG Budget will be considered by the committee.
